Controlling the PROFLEX modular system

PROFITT's software and hardware kit to build the universal control system for PROFLEX modules.

Each module is equipped with a CPU that provides the local and the remote control capabilities, stores the operational state and settings in a non-volatile memory. Also, a rack may be fitted with a CPU board (PFPC-3022/E for a PFR-3U rack, PFPC-3023/E for a PFR-1U rack) that monitors and manages all the modules in a rack via a control bus on a backplane.

The rack's CPU automatically determines the types of all modules in a rack, their slot positions, the power supply parameters and the rack's ambient temperature.

Apart from local controls situated at the frontal edge of a module's board, the remote control capability is enabled on a module when a rack has a CPU board installed.

Depending on the type of the rack's CPU board several ways of remote control are provisioned.

The remote control interfaces:

  • RS-232 - a direct control from a personal computer (only in a rack equipped with a CPU board);
  • RS-485 - a distributed management under a PROFITT's proprietary networking protocol (only in a rack equipped with a CPU board);
  • ETHERNET - a fully remote management and controls for PROFLEX modules (only in a rack equipped with a CPU board);
  • GPI - 14 presettable commands via a respective contact closure.

To connect a personal computer to the PROFITT's proprietary RS-485 networking protocol an interface converter (RS-232<=>RS-485) PIC-094 is nesessary.
