PORC-3232 series SDIembedded optical receiver with synchronization, auxiliary audio input and bidirectional RS-232/RS-422 support

PORC-3232 optical receivers convert an optical signal into electrical, support SDIembedded synchronization to the REF, auxiliary audio input. PORC-3232 supports the bidirectional RS-232/RS-422 communication over an optical link. PORC-3232 module occupies two slots in the PROLFEX 1U/3U racks.

Frame/Line synchronization of SDI to REF:

  • ±127 TV lines advance/delay within one TV frame
  • ±32µs advance/delay within one TV line with 37ns steps

PORC-3232 general description

Simplified schematics

Optical signal is amplified and demodulated. The resulting SDI is decoded into the 10-bits 4:2:2 stream which is processed to recover video and audio. Video stream is buffered and synchronized to the REF signal. The deembedded audio is buffered and a user-controllable delay is applied. The 2:1 multiplexer selects which audio source is reembedded into an output SDI - either the one from the input SDI or the one from external AES/analog inputs. RS-232/RS-422 data is deembedded from an input optical signal, the return RS-232/RS-422 channel is embedded into the output optical signal. The monitor video output provides the PAL picture with the audio level meter OSD.

Controls and indicators

PORC-3232 frontal panel:

The operation mode is selected by toggling the MODE button, the editing is done by pressing the UP and DOWN buttons. Pressing the UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously resets a parameter to a default value. The FREEZE button controls the "frame freeze" function.

The editable modes are:

  • INP GROUP SEL - to select an audio group number for deembedding
  • OUT GROUP SEL - to select an audio group number for reembedding
  • AUD SOURCE - the audio source selection for embedding: the deembedded from SDI or from the external inputs
  • TON - 1kHz test-tone generator ON/OFF in a selected audio channel
  • VU METR - an audio bar-graph OSD placement and scale controls
  • GAIN 1/2 - gain controls in the first stereo pair
  • GAIN 3/4 - gain controls in the second stereo pair
  • TIMING H - SDI to REF synchronization within a TV line
  • TIMING V - SDI to REF synchronization within a TV frame
  • TIMING AUD DELAY - audio delay in TV line increments
  • FREEZE - the "frame freeze" mode ON/OFF

The indicators:

  • REF – lit if there is a valid REF video signal
  • INP - lit if there is a valid input video signal
  • AUD DET – lit when an input signal contains valid audio packets
  • EDH MIN/HOUR – lit if an EDH error was detected whithin the last minute/hour interval
  • ADVANCE - displays the current value of delay/advance of SDI signal relative to the REF

The remote control and management from a PC

All the “PROFLEX” modules are remote controllable from a PC. This facility is available if a rack is fitted with a CPU module (ordered separately).
