POTM-3214SFP(CW)-4 series AUDIO and RS-232/RS-422/GPI data optical transmitters

PROFLEX™ POTM-3214SFP optical transmitters accept up to four audio channels with an independent gain controls and one RS-232/RS-422/GPI data signal to send over the single-mode optical fiber.

The POTM-3214SFP module occupies one slot in the PROLFEX 1U/3U racks so that up to four transmitters fit into a 1U rack and up to fifteen into a 3U rack.

A POTM-3214SFP transmitter is intended to pair with PORC-3234SFP series receivers which are WDM/CWDM/single-signal compatible.

The POTM-3214SFP accepts an analog and/or AES/EBU audio signal in any combination of inputs. At a receiving side the output standard may be chosen arbitrarily.

POTM-3214SFP(CW#) laser wavelengths:

  • a single-signal system: 1310±20nm (POTM-3214SFP) or 1550±20nm by request
  • WDM system: 1310±20nm (POTM-3214SFP) and 1550±20nm
  • CWDM system: the 1270~1610nm band with 20nm steps, (modification indexes: POTM-3214SFPCW##, where ## – the laser wavelength; for example, POTM-3214SFPCW1530-4AA)

POTM-3214SFP optical transmitter (and its intended counterpart - PORC-3234SFP optical receiver) is featuring the PAL monitor output, in the following picture: PAL black-burst with the bargraph audio level (quasi-peak and VU) meters OSD.

POTM-3214SFP-4 features:

Controls and indicators

POTM-3214-4 frontal panel

The operation mode is selected from a list by toggling by the MODE button, the UP and DOWN buttons change the settings of the selected mode.

Modes of operation:

  • GROUP - an audio group selection for the embedding
  • TON - the 1kHz test-tone ON/OFF
  • GAIN 1/2, 3/4 - an audio gain controls for each channel or stereo pair
  • PWR / VU -
  • λ, nm - lasers' wavelength display

Indicators:

  • MINUS - denotes negative values:
    • in the GAIN mode
    • in the PWR mode
  • AES LOSS - AES-loss indication (AE and EE modifications only):
    • AE model - the AES LOSS is lit when an input AES signal is lost
    • EE model - the AES LOSS blinks when one of AES input signals is lost, AES LOSS lits when all input AES signals are lost

Configuring the POTM-3214SFP transmitter

The audio group number selection:

Toggling the MODE button select the GROUP mode. Pressing the UP or DOWN buttons select an audio group number (1, 2, 3 and 4 groups are available).

The 1kHz test tone operation:

Toggling the MODE button select the TON mode. Pressing the UP or DOWN buttons select a channel number for 1kHz signal insertion.

  • OF - the test signal is OFF in all channels
  • On - the test signal is ON in all channels
  • 01, 02, 03, 04 - the test signal appears in a selected channel(s)

The audio gain presets:

Toggling the MODE button select the GAIN 12 or GAIN 34 mode. Pressing the UP and DOWN buttons select gain for a channel pair. The audio gain range: ±6dB in 0.2dB increments. The simultaneous depression of the UP and DOWN buttons resets the gain to 0dB. The MINUS LED denotes negative gain values.

Lasers' output power and the VU meter modes:

Toggling the MODE button select the PWR/VU mode. The main LED display shows the lasers' output power in dBm. The MINUS LED denotes negative values. Pressing the MODE and UP buttons simultaneously selects the VU-meter scale mode:

  • EBU scale, 0dBfs corresponds to +18 dBU (indicator shows "FS")
  • quazi-analog scale, 0dBU corresponds to 0,775VRMS (indicator shows "db")

Lasers' wavelength display:

Toggling the MODE button select the λ nm mode. The main LED display shows the lasers' wavelength. Since the LED display is two-digit only the two middle digits of the wavelength are shown:

  • 31 - the wavelength is 1310nm
  • 47 - the wavelength is 1470nm
  • 55 - the wavelength is 1550nm

The remote control and management from a PC

All the PROFLEX™ modules are remote controllable from a PC. This facility is available if a rack is fitted with a CPU module (ordered separately).
