POTR-7209 series 10/100/1000 BaseT FastEthernet optical transceivers

POTR-7209 optical transceivers provide the 10/100/1000BaseT FastEthernet bidirectional communication over an optical fiber. A pair of POTR-7209 provide the full duplex link over one or two (modification index “D”) optical fibers. The following modifications exist:

Note: The CW## index denotes one of the CWDM wavelengths in the range of 1270~1610nm in 20nm increments.
The input optical power should never exceed the -3dBm level to avoid the sensor damage and sensitivity loss.

Features

  • two electrical ports
  • Half/Full duplex and speed autonegotiation with status indication
  • optical link FastEthernet activity indication
  • optical and copper link connectivity indication
  • single- and dual-fiber modifications
  • DDMI-compliant SFP modules provide the real-time information of the RX input power, TX output power and wavelength

General description

An RX input electrical signal of FastEthernet stream is reclocked and converted into optical signal available at the optical output.

An optical signal is detected, processed and FastEthernet stream is provided at TX output.

In a dual-fiber modification (index “ D ”) one fiber is used to transmit, the other is used to receive on the 1310nm (1550nm by request) wavelength. For the CWDM optical systems the external MUX/DEMUX are required, RX and TX are on different CWDM wavelengths.

A single-fiber modification is fitted with the built-in optical MUX/DEMUX.

POTR-7209 rear panel view

The rear panel indicators:

  • SP - the link speed indicator:
    • triple blinks - 1000Mbps
    • double blinks - 100Mbps
    • blinking - 10Mbps
  • LINK - lit when copper connectivity is OK, blinks to display the link activity
  • LINK 1 - lit when optical connectivity is OK, blinks to display the link activity

POTR-7209 controls and indicators

The frontal panel has the following controls and indicators:

  • MODE - toggling this button one may select a parameter for monitoring
  • PORT - selects a port number to be monitored
  • SPEED - lit when the main LED display shows the link speed (in Mbps units)
  • PWR RX - lit when the main LED display shows the input optical power (in -dBm units)
  • PWR TX - lit when the main LED display shows the output optical power
  • λ TX - lit when the main LED display shows the lasers' wavelength (in 10nm units)
  • LINK P1 - lit when the port#1 has valid Ethernet connectivity
  • LINK P2 - lit when the port#2 has valid Ethernet connectivity
  • LINK F1 - lit when the optical connectivity is OK
  • PORT P1 - lit when the port#1 parameters are show at the main LED display
  • PORT P2 - lit when the port#2 parameters are show at the main LED display
  • PORT F1 - lit when the optical link parameters are show at the main LED display
  • Note:
The λ TX, PWR TX and PWR RX parameters are available only for the SFP-8472 MSA compatible SFP modules inserted. Otherways, or if an SFP module is missing, the raw of dashes will be shown at the main LED display.

The remote control and management from a PC

All the “PROFLEX” modules are remote controllable from a PC. This facility is available if a rack is fitted with a CPU module (ordered separately).

This is a sample screenshot of the Proflex v2.3 remote management software package controlling the POTR-7209 optical transceiver.
