Main / Optical interfaces / POTM-3214SFP(CW)-8/16
PROFLEX™ POTM-3214SFP(CW)-8/16 optical transmitters accept up to eight or sixteen audio channels with an independent gain controls and one RS-232/RS-422/GPI data signal to send over the single-mode optical fiber. The eight-channel POTM-3214SFP(CW)-8 module occupies one slot in the PROLFEX 1U/3U racks so that up to four transmitters fit into a 1U rack and up to fifteen into a 3U rack, the sixteen-channel POTM-3214SFP(CW)-16 occupies two slots. A POTM-3214SFP transmitter is intended to pair with PORC-3234 series receivers which are WDM/CWDM/single-signal compatible. Available modifications:
The POTM-3214SFP accepts an analog and/or AES/EBU audio signal(s) in any combination of inputs. At a receiving side the output standard may be chosen arbitrarily. POTM-3214SFP(CW#) laser wavelengths:
POTM-3214SFP optical transmitter (and PORC-3234 optical receiver) is featuring the PAL monitor output: the black-burst with the bargraph audio level (quasi-peak and VU) meters OSD. POTM-3214-8/16 features:
Technical specifications
Simplified schematic diagram POTM-3214SFP-8 simplified schematics: Depending on the model index (AA, EE or AE), the POTM-3214 accepts the input audio in analog, AES or in the combination of both standards respectively. POTM-3214SFP-8 rear panel: The sixteen-channel modification, ?IOI-3214-16, is actually a combination of the two ?IOI-3214-8 internally cascaded one after another. The first instance embeds audio channels #01~08, the second instance - #09~16. The optical output is taken from the second unit. POTM-3214SFP-16 simplified schematics: POTM-3214SFP-16 rear panel: Mechanical details PROFLEX™ POTM-3214 series optical transmitter consists of two sub-boards: the frontal and the rear. A frontal sub-board is 100x220mm easily removable module, it carries the main functionality circuitry, buttons and indicators. The lever at the side is used to pull the module out from a rack. A rear sub-board is 100x100mm module fixed to a rack behind the backplane. To release the rear module one needs to unscrew it's rear panel. The frontal and the rear modules are connected via the backplane in the rack. The sixteen-channel modification - the POTM-3214-16 - is a mechanically coupled pair of the POTM-3214 frontal modules, an insertion and removal is done by operating both levers simultaneously. Controls and indicators The indicators and the buttons are located at the front of the module. POTM-3214SFP-8 frontal panel: POTM-3214SFP-16 frontal panel: The operation mode is selected from a list by toggling by the MODE button, the UP and DOWN buttons change the settings of the selected mode. Modes of operation:
Configuring the POTM-3214SFP transmitter The audio group number selection: Toggling the MODE button select the GROUP mode. Pressing the UP or DOWN buttons select an audio group number: 1, 2, 3 and 4 are available. The audio signals are manipulated as channel pairs, four channels (two pairs) are being assigned a group number as a whole. The main indicator displays a group number combination: the leftmost digit shows the group number assigned to the channels #01~#08, the rightmost digit shows the group number assigned to the channels #09~#16 (POTM-3214SFP-16 only).
The 1kHz test tone operation: Toggling the MODE button select the TON mode. Pressing the UP or DOWN buttons select a channel number for 1kHz signal insertion.
The audio gain presets: Toggling the MODE button select the PAIR SELECT mode.
Pressing the MODE button again select the GAIN mode. Pressing the UP and DOWN buttons select gain for a channel pair. The audio gain range: ±6dB in 0.2dB increments. The simultaneous depression of the UP and DOWN buttons resets the gain to 0dB. The MINUS LED denotes negative gain values. The VU meter modes: Toggling the MODE button select the VU METR mode. Pressing the MODE and UP buttons select the VU-meter scale mode:
The remote control and monitoring The “PROFLEX” modular system provides the remote controls and monitoring capability. An optional CPU module installed in a rack connects to an IBM PC via the proprietary protocol and software package. |
