PGPI-4054 series GPI command consoles |
PGPI-4054 series GPI command consoles support 2 to 16 control lines with RS-232 status reporting capability (if used with the PIC-4051 or PPIC-3351 interface converters).
PGPI-4054 model index denotes the actual number of GPI lines: -14, -8 or -2.

General description
The console may have from two to sixteen buttons on it's frontal panel for GPI commands.
A GPI line status is reflected by button's backlight: if a button is lit - the GPI line is activated (closed to the ground).
All the connectors are located on the rear panel: X1~X16 for GPI lines, two RJ-45 connectors for RS-232/485, a +5v power supply and the configuration switch SW.
Since PGPI-4054's output is of an open collector type, it is highly advisable to protect the GPI line with a clamping diode.
Using the PGPI 4054-Control.exe configuration utility it is possible to preset the way the buttons respond to depresses.
The following modes are available:
- an unlatched independent button
- a latched independent button
- an unlatched dependent button
- a latched dependent button
The unlatched button activates the GPI line only for the duration of it's depression. On the button's release the line is opened. The latched button toggles the GPI line on each depression. A button may be assigned to a group of buttons, a depression on one such groupped button causes the release of the other groupped lines.
The RS-232 connectivity allows for the interoperation with the PIC-4051 and PPIC-3351 interface converters. The RS-232 data packet is described below:
- a four-byte packet
- the four least significant bits of each byte represent the GPI lines statuses
- the four most significant bits of each byte encode the byte number and the console address (as per Table#1)
This allows for daisy-chaining of consoles - by connecting console's RS-232 TX line to the RS-232 RX line of the next downstream console and accepting the similar connection from the upstream console.
Note#1:
For the sixteen-button consoles only up to three may be cascaded.
Note#2:
All cascaded consoles MUST be powered from the same power supply, otherways a switched off middle console will disconnect all it's upstream neighbours.
